Monel Alloys

Monel is a group of nickel alloys, primarily composed of nickel (up to 67%) and copper, with small amounts of iron, manganese, carbon, and silicon. Stronger than pure nickel, Monel alloys are resistant to corrosion by many agents, including rapidly flowing seawater. They can be fabricated readily by hot- and cold-working, machining, and welding

Monel 400

Monel 400 is a nickel-copper alloy (about 67% Ni – 23% Cu) that is resistant to sea water and steam at high temperatures as well as to salt and caustic solutions. Monel 400 has great mechanical properties at subzero temperatures, can be used in temperatures up to 1000° F, and its melting point.

Monel 401

Monel 401 is a nickel-copper alloy with a very low coefficient of electrical resistivity and resistance to a wide variety of corrosive conditions. Like with commercially pure Nickel, Alloy 401 is low in strength in the annealed condition and can only be cold worked to a maximum of 120 KSI. Monel 401 has a very low temperature coefficient of resistance and medium-range electrical resistivity. It is used in specialized electrical and electronic Applications.

Monel 404

Monel 404 has low magnetic permeability and low Curie temperature. Because its low magnetic permeability is not significantly affected by processing and fabrication, it is particularly suitable for electronic parts.

Monel R405

Monel R405 is a Nickel-Copper alloy, resistant to sea water and steam at high temperatures as well as to salt and caustic solutions.

Monel R405 is a nickel-copper alloy with excellent corrosion resistance in a wide variety of media. Monel R405 is characterized by good general corrosion resistance and moderate to high strength. Monel R405 has been used in a variety of applications. It has excellent resistance to rapidly flowing brackish water or seawater. It is particularly resistant to hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids when they are de-aerated. MONEL R405 is slightly magnetic at room temperature. Monel R405 is widely used in the chemical, oil and marine industries.

MONEL K-500

MONEL® alloy K-500 (UNS N05500/ W.Nr. 2.4375) is a nickel-copper alloy which combines the excellent corrosion resistance of MONEL alloy 400 with the added advantages of greater strength and hardness. The increased properties are obtained by adding aluminum and titanium to the nickel-copper base, and by heating under controlled conditions so that submicroscopic particles of Ni3 (Ti, Al) are precipitated throughout the matrix. The thermal processing used to effect precipitation is commonly called age hardening or aging. Typical applications for MONEL alloy K-500 products are chains and cables, fasteners and springs for marine service; pump and valve components for chemical processing; doctor blades and scrapers for pulp processing in paper production; oil well drill collars and instruments, pump shafts and impellers, non-magnetic housings, safety lifts and valves for oil and gas production; and sensors and other electronic components.
